As much as any other area, employment law is set against the backdrop of real people. Jason Shinn is adept in looking beyond the legal side of things to truly understand how legal actions and proceedings affect business environments and the employees who operate within them.

Jason has litigated various employment related claims on behalf of individuals and publicly traded, national, and local companies in state and federal court. This litigation experience also provides clients with a unique perspective when it comes to preventative employment law counseling: By knowing how litigation may arise, Jason can recommend ways to eliminate or, at least, minimize the risk of litigation.

Having worked at large national and regional law firms has given Jason the opportunity to collaborate with employers to respond to intricate and complex employment law matters. And Jason’s deep legal experience is also enhanced by over four years of working the 4:00 AM shift at United Parcel Service. While at first this job was just a great opportunity to put himself through college, it quickly became an opportunity to participate in the day-to-day dynamics of the Management and Union relationship.

Taken together, Jason has a rich understanding of the operations side of businesses and is equally skilled in comprehending how a company’s everyday business environment affects employers’ relationships with employees. Having worked alongside brilliant in-house counsel, phenomenal HR professionals, and insightful insurance claims professionals, Jason has significant exposure to a range of everyday and complex employment issues.

As technology continually changes the modern workplace, employment law experience is just the “ante” to get into the game. But to provide meaningful insight requires in-depth knowledge of the complex issues arising at the intersection of technology and employment law. As a constant observer of where these two areas often collide, Jason is skilled in aiding businesses in adopting policies and practices that minimize risk while allowing employees to operate efficiently and effectively. In this regard, Jason’s deep knowledge of technology and employment law has allowed him to be retained as an e-discovery/technology expert in various litigation, including employment discrimination claims. He has also provided seminars on the topic of e-discovery in employment litigation to various insurance professionals responsible for claims under Employment Practices Liability Policies.

On the Michigan Employment Law Advisor, Jason offers insight and analysis on prominent employment cases affecting Michigan employers and employees as well as also commenting on developing national employment law trends. Jason also offers a fresh and conversational perspective on a wide range of issues affecting both Michigan employers and employees and he looks forward to you joining this conversation.
